The multi-stemmed Eastern Redbud (Cercis canadensis multi-stem) is an ornamental small-sized tree or shrub. It has a beautiful Redbud bloom in early spring with a profuse amount of reddish-purple flowers covering the branches before leaf out. Following the flowers is the handsome green foliage that emerges on the loosely branched canopy as heart-shaped and is a rather pleasing sight. This tree grows upright in an attractive vase-shaped form.
The multi-stemmed Eastern Redbud suits small gardens and yards where normally a tree would not fit. The multi-stemmed feature of this Redbud gives it a more shrub-like appearance and should be treated in the landscape as such. They can be planted in a row to form a showy hedge or can stand alone as a lone spectacle. Make sure to plant it in its final location because it does not handle transplanting well. It does best in partial to full sun and does not have a soil preference though it should be watered regularly until established.
