Celebrate the arrival of spring even in the toughest climates with the Northern Herald® Eastern Redbud (Cercis canadensis 'Pink Trim'). Discovered in South Dakota and introduced by North Dakota State University, this remarkably hardy selection is built to withstand the harsh winters of the Northern Plains while delivering a breathtaking floral show. In early spring, its branches are completely smothered in a profusion of bright, magenta-pink pea-like flowers before the foliage even appears.

As the flowers fade, they are replaced by thick, leathery, heart-shaped leaves that are uniquely resistant to wind and heat, staying a lush dark green all summer long. Unlike other redbuds, Northern Herald® produces significantly fewer seed pods, maintaining a cleaner look throughout the season. Finishing the year with a golden-yellow fall display, this compact, round-headed tree is an ideal specimen for smaller yards, accents, or wind-exposed landscapes where other varieties might falter.
